China Eastern Airlines reports 27.7% decline in September domestic passengers

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) carried 4.2 million air travellers on its Mainland network in September, down 27.7% from the 5.8 million domestic customers it flew in August. Domestic passenger load factor for the 30 days was 60.7% compared with 67.2% in August and 65% in the year-ago period. The company reiterated previous statements that COVID-19 continued to have a significant impact on the business of the company and that great uncertainty about the timespan and severity of the pandemic persisted. In pre-COVID September 2019, the SkyTeam alliance member flew 8.8 million domestic passengers and had a load factor of 81.4%.
