AirAsia X affirms medium-haul focus; delays Dubai, London and Istanbul launches

Read More » The airline group, with operating bases in Malaysia and Thailand, has postponed the commencement of flights to Dubai, Istanbul and London. “This strategy ensures the AAX Group can operate at optimal frequency on our core routes to keep down costs, deliver the best fares in the market and maximise our revenue to ensure a successful and viable airline for the future,” Fernandes said. “Medium-haul is our first priority, but we remain focused on launching to certain longer haul destinations like London, Dubai and Istanbul that we will announce in the near future.” Malaysia AAX CEO, Benyamin Ismail, said the airline will increase its operating fleet from four A330-300s to “up to 13 aircraft by the first quarter of 2023”. The LCC group also has announced all furloughed pilots and retrenched cabin crew will have the opportunity to be flying with the airline by December.
