Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has welcomed the arrival of its first A321neo configured for domestic flights. Read More » The aircraft, registration ZK-OYA, arrived in Auckland on November 2 after a ferry flight from the Airbus Final Assembly Line in Hamburg via Muscat, Kuala Lumpur and Cairns. It is equipped with a single class 217 seat cabin compared with 171 seats on the Star Alliance carrier’s domestic A320neos. The aircraft will commence commercial operations on November 8 from Auckland to Wellington and mainly operate between Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Wellington. Air NZ will start boarding the aircraft earlier than past practice due to its increased capacity. “Our customers have told us departing on schedule and reaching their destinations on time is incredibly important,” Air NZ chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty, said. “With the introduction of the larger A321neo domestic aircraft into our operations, we will commence boarding five minutes earlier and encourage all customers to be at the gate ready to board at a minimum of 15 minutes before departure to ensure on-time take offs.” Air NZ is scheduled to receive six more domestic configured A321neos to 2026.
