Air New Zealand operates recovery flights after massive Auckland floods

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has added recovery flights to Japan and Samoa to its schedule to clear a backlog of passengers stranded by recent flooding in New Zealand’s largest city. The Star Alliance carrier said about 8,700 of the passengers disrupted by the city’s floods already were rebooked on new flights, with about 300 passengers still outstanding. “We have pulled out all the stops to get our customers in the air,” Air NZ chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty, said. “We have redirected cargo flights to pick up passengers, called in favours from our alliance partners, flown larger aircraft and adjusted our schedules wherever possible to make this happen. No stone has been left unturned.”
