Air travel revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), a measure of demand, grew by 64.4% in calendar 2022 compared with the previous year, airline lobby group, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), announced overnight. Read More » Despite the very strong recovery, RPKs for 2022 were 31.5% below pre-COVID-19 2019. “Let us hope 2022 becomes known as the year in which governments locked away forever the regulatory shackles that kept their citizens earthbound for so long,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “It is vital governments have learnt travel restrictions and border closures have little positive impact on slowing the spread of infectious diseases in our globally inter-connected world.”
