Australian domestic air fares remain elevated for the month

Australia's domestic air travellers were paying significantly more to fly around the country compared with a year ago, government figures show. Read More » The monthly index of domestic air fares from Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said its measure of “best discount” economy fares had risen 18.8 index points, or 33.6%, in the 12 months to February. The “restricted economy” index was up 9.8 index points, or 13.6%, and the index for business class fares climbed 4.2 points, or 7.7%.
