Australia's competition regulator grants draft extension for coordination between Qantas and its regional subsidiaries

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has flagged approval of an application from Qantas Group and Jetstar to continue coordination in areas such as flight scheduling, sales and marketing and pricing for another five years. Read More » In 2013 and then in 2018, the ACCC approved coordination between Qantas, Jetstar's Australia and New Zealand operations, Singapore-based Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Japan. It also allowed Jetstar to coordinate with Qantas and Japan Airlines on passenger and cargo services within Asia. “The ACCC considers the coordination is likely to result in public benefits by providing consumers with a wider choice of products, enhanced services and more convenient flight times,” ACCC commissioner, Anna Brakey, said. “This conduct is likely to result in little, if any, lessening of competition.”
