IATA safety monitor reports fewer fatal accidents in 2022

Aviation around the world recorded fewer fatal accidents in 2022, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said in its annual Safety Report. Read More » There were five fatal accidents involving loss of life to passengers and crew last year, down from seven in 2021. The fatal accident rate fell to 0.16 per million sectors, from 0.27 per million sectors previously. “Accidents are rare in aviation,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “But although the risk of flying is exceptionally low, it is not risk-free. Careful analysis of the trends emerging even at these very high levels of safety will make flying even safer. For example, this year’s report tells us we need to make special efforts with turboprop operations in Africa and Latin America.”
