Asiana Airlines profit down 84%

Asiana Airlines Inc., South Korea's second-largest carrier, said its net profit nosedived 83.7% to 13.5 billion won ($12.4 million) in the third quarter, mainly due to currency exchange losses. Read More »

The company, however, said its sales edged up 0.3% year-on-year to 1.52 trillion won, while its operating profit advanced 3.6% to 65.7 billion won in the three-month period ended September 30.

Average load factor in the third quarter stood at 81.8%, up 1.7% from the same period a year earlier. Asiana said flights to China, Southeast Asia and Europe fared particularly well.
