Virgin Australia application to extend charter alliance denied

Australia's competition regulator has rejected an application from Virgin Australia (VA) and Alliance Aviation Services for authorisation of their charter alliance for another five years. Read More » The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) decision follows a draft ruling last October that proposed denial of the authorisation to coordinate and jointly tender for corporate contracts such as fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) services. “The airlines have not demonstrated to us there is sufficient public benefit to outweigh the likely detriment from their proposed coordination, so we have decided not to re-authorise the conduct,” ACCC chair, Gina Cass-Gottlieb, said.
