Hawaiian Airlines returns to Cook Islands after 30 year absence

Hawaiian Airlines has resumed flights to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific, flying to the Polynesian archipelago from Hawaii after a break of three decades. Read More » The inaugural once a week HA495 flight, operated by A321neo registration N228HA, touched down in Rarotonga around 2245 local time on May 23 after a six-hour journey from Honolulu. The A321neo was on the ground for approximately 24 hours before departing as the reciprocal HA496 to Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines flew Honolulu-Rarotonga from 1987 to 1993 with McDonnell Douglas DC-8s and DC-10s. “We are so thrilled to begin this service, which greatly expands travel opportunities between the Cook Islands and the 15 continental U.S. cities we serve with convenient one-stop connections in Honolulu,” Hawaiian Airlines vice president of airport operations, Lokesh Amaranayaka, said. “This is the beginning of a prosperous partnership between Hawaiian Airlines and the Cook Islands that we hope will strengthen for many years to come.”
