IATA says cargo demand fell 6.6% in April

April CTKs were at 94.7% of pre-pandemic levels recorded in April 2019, the airline lobby group said. Capacity, or available cargo tonne kilometres (ACTK), was at 103.2% of pre-COVID-19 April 2019 levels as the recovery in passenger markets has added belly capacity into the market. The demand environment is challenging to read," IATA director general, Willie Walsh said. "Tapering inflation is definitely a positive. But the degree and speed at which that could lead to looser monetary policies that might stimulate demand is unclear. The resilience that got the air cargo industry through the COVID-19 crisis is also critical in the aftermath."
