Aviation lobby groups outline divergent views on airport slot guidelines

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and several regional airline associations have called on governments to ensure national or regional slot regulations are aligned dynamically with the Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG) in order to safeguard consistent, fair and transparent allocation of slots. Read More » “The Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines are the unsung hero of the air transport system,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “Governments should align their slot rules with this global standard to offer better air connectivity, efficiency and consumer choice.” However, Airport Council International (ACI) World said governments should ensure slot rules best met the realities of each market and addressed specific market challenges and opportunities. “While the Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines provide useful guidance, we must not overlook the importance of local level involvement,” ACI World director general, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, said. “By engaging the airport community directly, we can ensure the most effective slot rules are implemented to best serve travellers and communities.”
