Orient Aviation’s Week in the Asia-Pacific

It has been quite a week in Asia-Pacific aviation. Qatar Airways said it would add eight destinations to its network in 2017, defying recent cutbacks at Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, and Qantas Airways and American Airlines decided not to appeal a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) decision that refused to extend the airlines’ trans-Pacific partnership. In Taiwan, TransAsia Airways, following its shutdown, is facing onerous cancellation fines. In Indonesia, Lion Air is considering subsidiaries in Australia and Vietnam and the ever acquisitive HNA Group is planning a low-cost carrier in Chengdu.
