Virgin Australia (VA) accepted the first of eight 737 MAX 8s it has on order at a Boeing ceremony on June 28. Read More » The aircraft, registration VH-8IA “Monkey Mia”, will be ferried from Seattle to VA’s Brisbane headquarters in the days ahead. “These new aircraft will allow us to grow capacity and support more efficient jet services,” VA chief operating officer, Stuart Aggs, said. The aircraft, with a longer range than the 737-800NG, will shortly join newly launched Cairns-Tokyo Haneda, he said. The aircraft is on lease from China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings (CALC). “The arrival of the first 737-8 not only marks a milestone in CALC’s history as it is the first aircraft type in our fleet but also boasts unparalleled fuel efficiency and gives strong support to the airline’s sustainable fleet optimisation program,” CALC deputy CEO, Winnie Liu, said.
