Korean Air partners with GS Caltex in sustainable aviation fuel test flights

Korean Air (KAL) and GS Caltex have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work on test flights using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The two companies also are participants in a South Korean government project to boost the production and supply of eco-friendly fuels alongside the Incheon International Airport Corporation, the Korea Petroleum Quality and Distribution Authority, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. “SAF is crucial in reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector, but is easily influenced by factors such as domestic and international policies, regulations, and demand and supply,” KAL senior vice president of procurement, Seong Bae Cho, said. “The cooperative effort with GS Caltex will vitalise the Korean domestic SAF market and serve as a stepping stone for the Korean government’s decarbonisation policies.”
