Global airline association reports passenger demand increased 39.1% in May

Air travel revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) improved by 39.1% in May from the same month a year earlier, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports. Read More » Compared with pre-pandemic figures, the measure of demand was 96.1% of RPKs recorded four years ago. In the Asia-Pacific, RPKs increased 130.4% year-on-year for the 31 days, IATA said, maintaining the momentum being reported since the removal of most region-wide travel restrictions earlier this year. “We saw more good news in May,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “Planes were full with average load factor reaching 81.8%.”
