Sydney Airport CEO, Geoff Culbert, said earlier this week the airport has experienced stagnant domestic growth since April last year because local airlines are wasting take-off and landing slots. Read More » Australia’s largest airport by passenger numbers recorded 2.1 million domestic passengers in July, up 4.1% from 1.9 million air travellers in the same month a year ago. The numbers were 13% below domestic customers processed through the airport in July 2019. “The trend with respect to domestic activity has continued, with passenger numbers stagnant over the past 15 months,” Culbert said. “We continue to see evidence of unused slots going to waste, with a persistent mismatch between slots held by domestic airlines and schedules flown.” Australia's two largest airline groups, Qantas Group and Virgin Australia Group, have denied they practise slot hoarding at the airport.
