Global airline association confirms Jeju-Gimpo as world’s busiest route by passengers flown

The popular domestic Seoul Gimpo-Jeju service retained its position as the world's busiest air route by passenger numbers in June. Read More » The International Air Transport Association's (IATA) list, issued this week, reports all 10 of the world’s busiest routes measured by passengers carried were in Asia. Among them were Sapporo-Tokyo (2), Fukuoka-Tokyo (3), Okinawa-Tokyo (9) and Osaka-Tokyo (10) and Beijng-Shanghai (6), Shanghai-Guangzhou (7) and Shanghai-Shenzhen (8) in China. “Across 2023, the re-emergence of China’s domestic routes was observed following the post-COVID reopening of that significant market,” IATA said. “It is important to note all the routes listed are domestic, showing the role of aviation in connecting families, supporting tourism and enabling domestic business growth.”
