Air Canada has placed a firm order with Boeing for 18 787-10s, as well as purchase options for a further 12 of the type, with deliveries to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. The Star Alliance currently has eight 787-8s and 30 787-9s in its fleet, with a further two 787-9s on order.
Rolls-Royce said its hydrogen research project, in partnership with easyJet, the German Aerospace Centre and Loughborough University, has successfully run a test on a Pearl 700 engine powered by 100% hydrogen which showed the fuel could be combusted at conditions representing maximum take-off thrust. "Controlling the combustion process is one of the key technology challenges the industry faces in making hydrogen a real aviation fuel of the future. We have achieved that, and it makes us eager to keep moving forward," Rolls-Royce chief of technology, Grazia Vittadini, said.
ST Engineering has signed a five-year contract with Lion Air Group to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the Indonesia-based company's LEAP-1B engines used on the Batik Air, Batik Air Malaysia, Lion Air and Thai Lion 737 MAX fleet.
