Qatar Airways surprised and shocked by rejection for more traffic rights to Australia

Qatar Airways senior vice-president of global sales, Matt Raos, has told an Australian parliamentary inquiry the airline was surprised and shocked by the Australian government's decision to knock back a request to operate more flights into the country's four major international gateways of Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Read More » The Australian government has cited the national interest, among other reasons, for rejecting the request at a time of high international airfares and reduced international capacity compared with pre-COVID-19 levels. "Even more surprising was that the government gave us no reason for rejecting our application," Raos said. Qatar Airways’ senior vice-president of aeropolitical and corporate affairs, Fathi Atti, told the inquiry he believed the application had been unfairly rejected.
