All Nippon Airways puts Lufthansa Group and United Airlines joint cargo ventures on back burner
October 3rd 2023
All Nippon Airways (ANA) has suspended its cargo joint venture with Lufthansa Group and United Airlines (UA). Read More » The airline's parent, ANA HOLDINGS INC, said the suspension was due to the “future restructuring” of ANA's cargo business. ANA and UA were granted antitrust immunity for their cargo joint venture in 2015 and the Japanese carrier and Lufthansa received antitrust immunity in 2013. Earlier this year, ANA HOLDINGS announced it was acquiring Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) from Yusen Kaisha (NYK) via a share exchange. The transaction was due to be completed by October 1, with NCA to be a 100% subsidiary of ANA HOLDINGS. However last week the company pushed back the completion date of the transaction to February 1, 2024 and said the acquisition is subject to approvals from relevant authorities. “Taking into consideration the time to complete the review of the business combination that will result from the share exchange by the relevant authorities in Japan and foreign countries etc., the company decided to change the effective date of the share exchange,” ANA HOLDINGS said last week.
