Airlines in the Asia-Pacific transported 23.7 million passengers on international flights in September, more than double the 11.2 million international travellers they carried in the same month in 2022. Read More » International capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was 86.1% higher year-on-year for the 31 days, the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) said. “In the first nine months of the year, Asian airlines, in aggregate, carried 194 million international passengers, up 212% over the same period last year, which reflects a very strong post- pandemic recovery in demand,” AAPA director-general, Subhas Menon, said. “The outlook for the region’s travel markets is broadly positive going into the final quarter of the year, with continued expansion in air passenger demand supported by resilient growth in Asian economies.” The latest passenger numbers represent 79% of the 29.1 million international passengers carried by the region’s airlines in September 2019. International ASKs were at 80.3% of the capacity Asia-Pacific airlines offered in the same month four years ago. Menon also noted air cargo demand, measured by freight tonne kilometres, turned positive in September for the first time this year.
