Air Niugini orders six A220-100s

Air Niugini, the national carrier of Papua New Guinea, has signed a firm order with Airbus for six latest generation single aisle A220-100s under its fleet modernisation programme. Read More » The carrier also will acquire three A220-300s and another two A220-100s from third party lessors, Airbus said.
The A220s will operate across Air Niugini’s domestic and regional networks, including planned Asia-Pacific destinations.
The airline has selected a flight planning support system from Airbus subsidiary, NAVBLUE, for its new fleet. N-Flight Planning (N-FP) is a solution that assists airlines to optimize fuel, time and cost and supports overall safety and compliance.
The A220-100 carries 100 to 150 passengers on flights up to 3,450 nautical miles (6,390 km). The aircraft serves the 100-135 seat market and the larger A220-300 is tailored for the 120-150 seat market. The type is powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF™ engines.
At September 30, 30 customers have ordered 800 plus A220s of which 280 have been delivered to 17 customers, Airbus said.
