Asiana Airlines to divest cargo unit as it seeks approval for merger with Korean Air

Read More » Divestment of Asiana's cargo business has been raised by aviation regulators in a number of jurisdictions when scrutinising the planned integration of the two carriers. The Star Alliance member's cargo operations have about 20% market share in South Korea, flown by 747-400Fs (both factory built and passenger conversion varieties) and 767-300Fs. In May, the European Commission (EC) handed down its preliminary view that the planned Asiana-KAL consolidation may reduce competition on passenger routes from South Korea to France, Germany, Italy and Spain and also on cargo flights between all of Europe and South Korea.
