Shareholders rebuke Qantas Group leadership at AGM

Qantas Group shareholders, voting at the company’s AGM on November 3, overwhelmingly rejected the group’s remuneration report and lodged a large protest vote that opposed the re-election of board director Todd Sampson. Read More » Some 82.9% of shareholders voted down the remuneration report, which registers as a “first strike” against the company. If more than 25% of shareholders vote against the report next year, the result will trigger a spill of the entire board. While directors Doug Parker and Dr Heather Smith were comfortably elected to the board with less than 2% voting no, Sampson recorded a 33.9% vote against his re-election. Belinda Hutchinson also had a relatively large 7.3% vote opposing her re-election. Qantas chair, Richard Goyder, and CEO, Vanessa Hudson, again apologised for the substantial loss of trust in Qantas in the past year. “Reflecting on what I have heard, the disappointment and frustration is clear,” Hudson told shareholders in prepared remarks. “There are many things – big and small – that we did not get right. For that, we have sincerely apologised to our customers and people, and I apologise to you, our shareholders.”
