November 15th 2023
Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) says it will have 10 A320neo family aircraft grounded next January with the figure rising to 20 aircraft later in the year, due to engine maintenance requirements for the Pratt & Whitney (P&W) geared turbofan engines used on the narrow-body aircraft. Read More » In September, P&W disclosed a rare condition in the powder metal used to manufacture certain parts of PW1100G-JM GTF engine and a requirement for accelerated inspections to occur from now to 2025. Despite the impact of the inspections, CEB’s seat capacity is predicted to increase by 5% to 8% in 2024 compared with the previous 12 months. The company was taking a focused approach to manage the situation, it said. “We continue to explore various opportunities to supplement the fleet and ensure operational resilience, including securing new and used aircraft and exploring aircraft leases,” CEB CEO, Michael Szucs, said. “By year-end, we expect our network will be 103% of pre-pandemic levels. Domestic will continue to exceed pre-pandemic demand and international will reach about 93% of previous capacity.”
