The A220, registration VH-X4A and named Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa, emerged from Airbus paint shop in Mirabel, Canada emblazoned with an Indigenous livery designed by senior Pitjantjatjara artist Maringka Baker. It is expected to be accepted by Qantas before year-end. Another six of the type will have joined the airline’s fleet by mid-2025. The A220-300s, which are fitted with 10 business and 127 economy seats, is replacing QantasLink’s 717s. “These aircraft have the potential to change the way our customers travel across the country, with the ability to connect any two cities or towns in Australia,” Qantas Group CEO, Vanessa Hudson, said. “A whole new fleet type also means a lot of opportunities for our people to operate and look after these aircraft.”
