Air New Zealand reports 2.1% increase in passenger traffic in October

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) flew 1.28 million passengers on its domestic and international networks last month, up 2.1% from the 1.25 million customers it carried a year ago. Read More » The Star Alliance member said capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was 40% higher than October 2022. “The overall increase in group capacity largely was driven by the resumption of the international network following the full re-opening of New Zealand’s border post-COVID,” Air NZ said. The carrier’s long-haul ASKs were higher by 79.6% while short haul international ASKs increased by 16.8%. However, domestic ASKs declined 5.1% year-on-year in the 31 days from flight cancellations caused by adverse weather and operational requirements, Air NZ said. Passenger numbers were 91.4% of the 1.4 million air travellers the airline transported in pre-pandemic October 2019. ASKs were 88.1% of four years ago.
