Cathay reports 320% increase in passenger numbers for October

Cathay Pacific chief customer and commercial officer, Lavinia Lau, said the airline group's net profit for the six months to December 31 2023 was expected to exceed the HK$4.3 billion (US$547 million) net profit recorded in the first half of the calendar year. Read More » "The strong performance in the first half from the airline and subsidiaries has continued," Lau said in the company's monthly traffic report. "With respect to the consolidated group result, we expect that the second-half profit in 2023 will surpass the result from the first half and that the group will achieve a consolidated profit for the year overall, which will be our first profitable year since 2019." Lau said Cathay Pacific and its LCC, HK Express, were "on track" to reach 70% of pre-pandemic passenger flights by December, covering about 80 destinations. "In 2024, we shall continue to work towards fully rebuilding our flights," Lau said. Cathay Pacific reported 1.7 million passengers for October 2023, up 320.2% from 400,909 in the same month a year earlier. The figure was 61.5% of the 2.7 million passengers flown in the pre-pandemic month of October 2019.
