AirAsia Indonesia (AAI) has announced a new nonstop route between Denpasar and Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara province on the island of Timor in the south east of the country. Read More » Flights were scheduled to begin on December 16 and operate three times a week. AAI CEO, Veranita Yosephine, said the route supported the Indonesia government's efforts to grow tourism in East Nusa Tenggara province. The LCC said figures from the East Nusa Tenggara Province Central Statistics Agency showed there were 316 foreign visitors to Kupang in the 2020-2022 period, while the number of domestic tourists fell from 4,691 in 2020 to 3,031 in 2022. Currently, Lion Air and Wings Air are on the Denpasar-Kupang route. AAI already flies to Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara province from Denpasar and Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta.
