Virgin Australia agrees workplace contract with cabin crew
December 15th 2023
Virgin Australia (VA) and the unions representing its cabin crew have announced a new in-principle workplace contract between the airline, the Flight Attendants' Association of Australia (FAAA) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU). Read More » It includes salary increases of 15% to 18% over three years, better roster flexibility for staff, improvements in allowances for standby and overtime and changes to other conditions. VA said the overall cost of the new contract was in line with agreements reached with other work groups. “Under the new enterprise agreement, cost of living pressures will be easier for crew to manage and lifestyle challenges will be easier to navigate,” VA said. “Today’s outcome is the result of constructive negotiations with both unions, facilitated by the Fair Work Commission. It will ensure our people are appropriately rewarded for their work and Virgin Australia is set up for long-term success.” A new deal with cabin crew unions ends the threat of disruptions to the airline's operations in the busy end-of-year travel period after more than 98% of VA cabin crew members of the FAAA voted in early this month to take protected industrial action in the lead up to Christmas if an acceptable deal was not reached with their airline employer.
