Passenger traffic at Malaysia’s largest airport reaches 76% of pre-pandemic numbers

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) said air travellers through the airport were higher by 85.9%, at 47.2 million in calendar 2023, against 25.4 million in the previous year. Read More » The 2023 figures represented 75.8% of the 62.3 million travellers processed through KLIA in calendar 2019, the last full-year before the outbreak of the pandemic. International traveller throughput at the airport’s two terminals for the year increased 128.1%, from 32.6 million in 2022. Domestic passengers processed were 31.8% higher, at 14.7 million, KLIA’s operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB), said. “Overall, 2023 traffic growth was driven by the increase in traveller confidence, air travel demand, approval of more slots at other international airports, reactivation of more aircraft, new aircraft deliveries and China’s reopening of its borders on January 8,” MAHB said.
