SpiceJet adds two A340s for religious pilgrimage flights

India-based SpiceJet has signed lease agreements for two A340 aircraft for religious pilgrimage flights to Saudi Arabia. Read More » The 324-seat A340s were expected to operate from Guwahati and Srinagar, SpiceJet said in a regulatory filing. Earlier this year, the LCC secured rights to operate religious pilgrimage, or Haj, flights from seven cities in India – Aurangabad, Bhopal, Gaya, Guwahati, Indore, Srinagar and Vijayawada – to Saudi Arabia, starting May 9. "These A340s will not only elevate our service standards but also play a vital role in enhancing our revenue streams,", SpiceJet head of leasing and legal, Chandan Sand, said. The company said previously its 2024 Haj operations were expected to exceed the 3.4 billion rupee (US$41 million) in revenue generated from last year's flights. In other SpiceJet fleet news, the airline said it had finalised lease agreements for 10 aircraft as part of efforts to "meet the growing demand for air travel, particularly during the busy summer months".
