Thai AirAsia, AirAsia X, launch three Taiwan-Japan routes

Two AirAsia branded airlines – AirAsia X (AAX) and Thai AirAsia (TAA) – are entering the Taiwan-Japan market with three fifth-freedom routes due to start from the end of May. Read More » Malaysia-based AAX is launching daily flights between Taipei Taoyuan and Tokyo Narita from May 31 2024 with two-class A330-300s configured with 12 premium flatbeds and 365 economy seats at nine abreast. On June 16, TAA commences daily Taiyuan-Okinawa flights, followed by four times weekly Kaohsiung-Okinawa services starting the following day. Both routes will be flown by 180-seat, single-class A320s. “We are proud to launch our first fifth-freedom route this year from Taipei to Tokyo, highlighting the remarkable recovery for AAX," AAX CEO, Benyamin Ismail, said. "Japan has always been the top destination for AAX, and this launch stands as a strong testament to our commitment to the competitive market and to facilitating more convenient and affordable travel for our guests." TAA CEO, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said: "Thai AirAsia has been actively expanding our routes connecting Taipei and Kaohsiung with Japan this year, including the recent launch of the Kaohsiung-Bangkok route. We thank our Taiwanese guests for their constant support along this journey and we look forward to exploring additional routes to Thailand and Japan."
