Read More » The figure is more than double the country's 139.4 million air travellers recorded in 2023 and represents 2.3% annual growth from pre-pandemic 2018-2019 to fiscal 2049-2050. Domestic passengers are predicted to reach 237.5 million by 2049-2050, from 109.8 million in 2022-2023. Total international inbound and outbound passengers are calculated to more than triple from 29.6 million to 94.7 million. “Aviation plays a key role in Australia’s transport system, providing regular scheduled services between Australia's highly dispersed major population centres and vital connectivity for rural and remote communities,” BITRE said. “As a large island nation located significant distances from our nearest neighbours, aviation is the primary means of access for international visitors and for domestic residents travelling overseas.”
