Korean Air to sell five 747-8s to Sierra Nevada Corporation

A Korean Air (KAL) exchange filing has revealed U.S. aerospace group, Sierra Nevada Corporation, will purchase five 747s from the flag carrier. Read More » Recently, the U.S. Air force awarded a $13 billion contract to Sierra Nevada to develop a successor to the E-4B Nightwatch, known as the Doomsday Plane. The E-4Bs can survive a nuclear war and act as a command and control center during emergencies. The E-4Bs, in service since the 1970s, are modified 747-200s. The 918 billion won (US$674 million) transaction will be finalized in September 2025.
