Air New Zealand introduces fast track pilot training program

Air New Zealand (AirNZ) has launched an accelerated path to qualification as a commercial pilot to “future proof” the airline against cockpit crew shortages, Radio New Zealand reports. The airline is in the process of selecting 30 New Zealanders for the inaugural course that will begin in September. AirNZ said it is not short of pilots, but wants to train new cockpit crew because of an aging workforce. “There is a worldwide shortage of pilots. We need to future proof ourselves from that supply constraint,” AirNZ chief operational integrity and safety officer, Captain David Morgan said, and added the cadetships aimed to diversify the crew working for AirNZ by recruiting more women and members of the wider population of New Zealand.
