India’s carriers increase domestic passenger numbers by 4.4% in April

Airlines across India carried 13.8 million in-country passengers in May against the 13.2 million domestic passengers they flew a year ago. Read More » The Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) data shows LCC IndiGo was the country’s dominant domestic carrier for the 31 days transporting 8.5 million passengers, or 61.6% of the domestic market, followed by Tata’s Air India at 1.9 million passengers (13.7% market share) and Vistara at 1.3 million customers (9.2% market share). The DGCA’s latest report said SpiceJet had the highest domestic passenger load factor in the month, at 94.1%, followed by Vistara (93.4%) and Akasa Air (90.3%). Akasa Air also was the most punctual airline flying from India's four metropolitan airports - Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai – for the month with 85.9% of its flights operating on time.
