Selected “special” airfares trending downwards in Australia but premium fares increase

Some relief for Australia's domestic air travellers flying on “best discount” economy fares has been noted in the monthly index of domestic air fares compiled by the country’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE). Read More » Its measure of “best discount” fares declined 10.1 index points, or 14.4%, in the 12 months to June, BITRE said. The measure of “restricted economy” rose 0.7 of an index point, or 0.9%, and business class was higher by 2.6 index points (4.4%).
