Australia’s airlines flew 23.2% more international air travellers in March against a year ago

Airlines transported 3.3 million passengers into and out of Australia in March from 2.6 million air international travellers carried in the same month in 2023, figures from the country's Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) show. Qantas Airways was the country's largest international airline by passenger numbers for the month with a 16.8% market share, ahead of Qantas Group LCC, Jetstar, (11.7%). The country's largest foreign carrier in the 31 days was Singapore Airlines (9.3%) followed by Air New Zealand (8.3%) and Emirates Airline (5.2%). Of the top five city pairs by passenger numbers, Singapore features in three – Melbourne-Singapore (1st with 4.5% of all passengers), Sydney-Singapore (2nd at 4.3%) and Perth-Singapore (4th at 3.5%). The top five routes were rounded out by Sydney-Auckland in third place (3.8%) and Melbourne-Auckland 5th, at 3%.
