Australia recorded 14% increase in international air travellers in May

Air travellers flying into and out of Australia rose 14%, to 3 million, in May compared with 2.7 million international air travellers in the same month a year ago. Read More » Despite the increase, international passengers processed through Australia’s airports were 5.6% below the 3.2 million air travellers arriving and departing Australia in pre-pandemic May 2019, figures from Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) show. Capacity for the month was higher by 14.2%, at 4 million seats, against May 2023. Qantas Airways retained its position as the country's leading international airline by passengers with a 17.2% market share, ahead of Qantas Group LCC, Jetstar (12.4%). The country's largest foreign carrier in the 31 days was Singapore Airlines (9.6%) followed by Air New Zealand (7.1%) and Emirates Airline (6.1%).
