Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded throughput of 4.8 million air travellers last month, up 24.7% from the 3.8 million passengers it processed in July 2023. Read More » Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) said all passenger segments increased in the month and that “passenger traffic has maintained growth momentum in July as daily passenger traffic exceeded 170,000 on peak days”. “Traffic to and from Southeast Asia, China and Japan recorded the most significant increases,” AAHK said. Passenger numbers for the reported 31 days represented a 70.7% recovery from the 6.7 million passengers who travelled through the airport in pre-pandemic July 2019. Cargo volumes for the month rose 14.6%, to 414,000 tonnes, compared with a year ago, AAHK said. The air freight performance was driven by exports and cargo traffic to and from Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East that increased “most significantly” in July.
