Australia reports 2.8% improvement in domestic passengers in July

Airlines operating in Australia carried 5.2 million passengers on scheduled domestic flights in July, up 2.8% from 5 million in-country passengers transported in the same month a year earlier. Read More » Despite the year-on-year growth, passenger numbers in July were 5.5% below the 5.5 million carried in the pre-COVID-19 month of July 2019. Capacity, measured by available seats, rose 3.7% year-on-year in July, while the passenger load factor fell 1.3 percentage points to 81.5%, Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said in its monthly traffic report. The busiest domestic route for the 31 days was Melbourne-Sydney, with 651,900 passengers, up 2.8% from the 633,800 air travellers who flew between the two cities in July 2023.
