Air New Zealand begins 787 cabin upgrade program

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has delivered the first of its 787-9s to ST Engineering for installation of the flag carrier’s new cabin product. Read More » The 787-9, registration ZK-NZH, touched down in Singapore late last week where it will be upgraded with premium economy and economy seats and a newly design business class seat. Retrofitting of the 787-9 is scheduled to be completed in early 2025. All 14 of the type operated by the Air NZ will be upgraded in the next two years. “The seats, inflight entertainment system, carpets, curtains and lavatory wallpaper will be removed and replaced with new product,” Air NZ general manager of strategy, networks and fleet, Baden Smith, said. “We are retrofitting them one at a time to ensure we have enough aircraft to fly our schedule and are not disrupting customers' travel plans.” ST Engineering head of aerospace MRO, Tan Eng Shu, said: “Being a long-standing MRO partner to Air New Zealand, we are able to support their Dreamliner fleet's life cycle requirements from maintenance work to the world's first full cabin retrofit on a Boeing 787-9.”
