AirAsia and AirAsia X airlines maintain healthy growth in third quarter

AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Thailand, AirAsia Indonesia, AirAsia Philippines and AirAsia Cambodia flew a combined 15.9 million passengers in the last quarter, 8% more than the matching months in 2023, with passenger load factor steady at an average of 89% for the reported weeks. International passenger demand was robust and outpaced capacity expansion, it said. China and India routes recorded a year-to-date load factor of 89%. Domestically, AirAsia Malaysia resumed operations from Kuala Lumpur Subang airport with rotations to Sabah and Sarawak. The two routes have maintained a load factor of 92% since their launches in late August. Excluding AirAsia Cambodia, overall passenger numbers for the LCC group are nearing pre-pandemic volumes at 85% of pre-COVID numbers accompanied by a capacity recovery of 81%, the group said.
AirAsia X Berhad (AirAsia X) transported 1,084,049 passengers in the September quarter, 34% more air travellers than in the matching three months last year. Capacity was higher by 27%, load factor was up 4pp to 84%, passenger traffic (RPK) increased 24% and available seat kilometers by 17%.
AirAsia X Thailand (TAAX) carried 342,533 passengers, 0.1% more than in July-September 2023. Capacity increased by 2% and load factor declined 2pp to 80%. TAAX’s fleet size stood at eight A330s, with seven aircraft activated and operational at the close of last month.
