Thailand urged to prepare for significant growth as a regional hub

Speaking in Bangkok at the annual International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) World Passenger Symposium, IATA’s Regional Vice President for North Asia and the Asia-Pacific, Dr. Xie Xingquan, urged Thailand to strengthen the foundations of its aviation sector as it emerges from COVID-19. Read More » Thailand’s passenger numbers are forecast to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 3.88% from this year to 2043, Dr Xie said. The country must maximize the benefits of aviation to catalyze the Thai economy, including investment in infrastructure, digitalization and sustainability, he said. “Thailand’s aviation potential is bright. Already demand has reached 88% of 2019 levels and we can expect the start of real growth from 2025. With world class tourism assets and a growing regional business sector, Thailand is well positioned to become a top 15 global market for aviation in the next two decades,” he predicted.
