China Eastern Airlines reports network-wide demand increase

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) flew 12.3 million passengers last month, up 14.9% from the 10.7 million air travellers it carried a year ago. Read More » CEA’s international passengers rose 76.8%, to 1.5 million, its domestic network reported growth of 9.3%, to 10.5 million, and regional travellers were higher by 24.6% at 318,500. Overall capacity, or available seat kilometres, (ASK), was better by 12.3% year-on-year. Capacity expansion in the month was the result of 58.3% ASK growth on international routes and a 10.8% expansion of the airline’s regional network. “In October, the company’s passenger transportation capacity in the international market recovered to 98.25% of the same period in 2019,” CEA said. The SkyTeam alliance member lowered ASKs in its domestic market by 0.9% in the month, but added overall passenger load factor was up 7.5 percentage points to 84.6%. CEA welcomed three A320 family, one 737 and one 787 aircraft to its operations in October and retired an A320 family aircraft, building the fleet of the Shanghai headquartered carrier to 794 aircraft at October 31.
