Asia-Pacific generating more than 56% of air cargo growth

Read More » For the first 10 months of the current year, the region’s carriers recorded a 12% year-on-year increase in tonnage, bettering the Asia-Pacific’s share of worldwide outbound tonnages by two percentage points, to 41%, compared with 39% in 2023, the data specialist said. In the reported month, general cargo contributed near 64% of air freight traffic boosted by large volumes of e-commerce goods consolidated as general cargo. Special Cargo transactions were dominated by the vulnerables/high-tech product category, increasing growth in the sector by 80%. Among the top five individual airports or city origin growth markets, Hong Kong has maintained its lead as the world’s busiest air cargo gateway and biggest single generator of year-on-year outbound growth, a position it has held for most of 2024, WorldACD said.
