Read More » Capacity on its domestic network was 1.1% lower and down by 3.8% on its long-haul routes. There was 3.7% growth in short-haul international available seat kilometres (ASK), Air NZ said. The Star Alliance member has trimmed ASKs year-on-year in seven of the last eight months. “Capacity reductions in the month and year-to-date periods are driven by reduced aircraft availability from global additional engine maintenance requirements,” Air NZ said in a regulatory filing. The airline flew 1.63 million passengers in December, 0.6% below the 1.64 million air travellers it transported on its domestic and international networks in the same month in 2023. “While some Asian routes have benefitted from improved yields in the current year, North America was impacted by higher competition in the first quarter compared with the prior comparative period,” said Air NZ. The airline announced earlier this month it is suspending seasonal summer Auckland-Seoul Incheon.
